Best spots for some summer outdoor drinking
As spring and summer arrive, you’ll find huge crowds of people enjoying life outside, chilling, spending time in parks, usually with a drink in their hands. This is probably one of the best times of the year to be in the city. There are several great outdoor spots, let me tell you some of them.
Deák Square, Akvárium
There is a huge green area in the city center where the Deák and Elizabeth Squares meet. It is full of benches, people walking their dogs and youngsters laying on the grass, playing some guitar, smoking some shisha and drinking some fröccs (that’s a typical Hungarian drink: white or rosé wine mixed with some sparkling water). It is such a great place, next to a great bar, called Akvárium, which is literally an underground bar/restaurant/club, located under a small artificial lake, so when you are in there you feel like a fish in an aquarium, hence the name of the place.
The City Park which is located at the end of Andrássy Boulevard, behind Heroes’ Square and is the second biggest green park in Budapest. The area itself is full of recreational amenities, such as the Széchenyi Spa, the State Circus, the Zoo, and much more. During spring and summer, you can enjoy the beauty of the artificial boating lake. There are also plenty of green spots where you can enjoy some drinks. At the lake, there is a café with a great terrace offering a pretty view of Vajdahunyad Castle – such a lovely place. The park itself is also famous among sportsmen, as there are various jogging routes around it as well.
Probably the best spot for some summer outdoor drinking. Margaret Island is the greatest green area/park in the city, located at the Danube, between the Margaret and the Árpád bridges. It’s a huge area, a place for hotels, swimming pools, joggers, sportsmen and picnickers. You can just bring your blanket, a picnic bag, bottles of drinks, lemonade and enjoy thesun. There are several catering facilities where you can also eat lángos (the famous Hungarian dish). You can also rent bikes on the island and cruise around. There is a garden of roses (amazingly pretty), and a Japanese garden with a little zoo, as well.
If you are planning to visit these parks with a bike, don’t hesitate and come into Yellow Zebra Bikes & Segways (16 Lázár street, 1065, Budapest) to get a yellow “zebra” for yourself and your friends. But don’t forget: don’t drink and drive!
