If you are a keen cyclist, you are going to love the cycle lanes in and around Krakow. Cycling is very popular in Poland as both a sport and a means of transport. So there are a lots of cycle lanes in the city of Krakow and its surroundings. Furthermore, with so many wonderful sights to explore, cycling is a great option for both visitors and locals during the daytime. The most popular routes are located next to the Vistula River, which is the longest river in Poland and flows through Krakow. The bike lanes next to the river are also the fastest way to get through the city on a bike. So why not spend a day cycling the Vistula.
What is great about the cycle lanes in Krakow is that you can start your ride literally anywhere in the city center and get to almost any place directly. Cycling next to the Vistula River is a great idea. The breeze is positively chilling, the bike lanes wide and good quality and the views are beautiful. The Royal Wawel Castle, Church on the Rock, statues, nice villas, Przegorzaly Castle and Bielany Abbey – all of these you can see during the ride. Moreover, if you cycle up the river, west from Krakow, you will find yourself in the astonishing ancient (almost a 1000 years old) Tyniec Abbey, with its majesty, history and beauty. A must see whilst biking in Krakow!
The Lover’s Bridge
Heading back towards Krakow you can visit Podgorze. This was the former Austrian city joined to Krakow in 1915 and the place where the WWII Krakow Ghetto was located. While here you’ll find yourself alongside the Schindler’s Factory and a lot of other sights. Also the Lover’s Bridge, with its romantic padlocks, is a must see whilst in the area. And remember, it’s a bike and foot bridge, so you have priority over there and can spend time making great photos and chatting with other cyclists.
